The Past
1957 CHEVROLET
My first drag racing back in 1980 at Thunderpark, New Zealand. This was my daily driver 1957 Chev running a 350 V8 with an early nitrous oxide injection system. Would drive it to the track (400km away), race and then drive home. Best ET was in the high 12s
1937 FORD COUPE
Built around 1985, this coupe was powered by an injected 440ci Chev running on methanol. Although built for racing, with a custom Berry chassis, it was street registered in New Zealand even though it had slicks and a parachute on the back. Capable of mid 10s
FLATHEAD EXPRESS I FRONT ENGINE DRAGSTER
Run from 2002 to 2010, this was our first experimentation with supercharged Ford Flatheads and front engine dragsters. We competed mostly at the Perth Motorplex but also at nostalgia drags at Willowbank and Sydney. It was a low 9 second car when flathead powered and dipped into 8s when we had killed all our flatheads and put a SBC in it
1939 FORD COUPE
This was a fun street car that saw occasional duty at nostalgia drags. Powered by 400 SBC with a small supercharger, it ran in the low 12s
SCREAMIN’ DEMON FRONT ENGINE DRAGSTER
Our drag racing got more serous when we imported this car from the USA in 2005. Powered by a 518ci Keith Black all aluminium engine, this car was a weapon. At the time, a front engine dragster 6 second pass had not been done in Australia, so that was our goal. Initial engine issues caused a lot of headaches but, with perseverance, the car dipped into the 6s and stayed there. First 6 second pass was a 6.47 ET at 216mph. The first FED 6 second pass in Aus !
