The Origin of the Salt Coupe

The coupe project started in 2019, triggered by a conversation with a great bloke named Phil while attending the Lake Perkolili Red Dust Revival. I mentioned to Phil that I would love to build a mid 30s Ford coupe and he said he had one sitting on his farm rubbish tip but he was not keen on parting with it. We said we would drop in and visit him anyway but then Covid arrived and and no visiting was happening.

A year later, in 2020, I was at a swap meet in Perth, Western Australia when an acquaintance mentioned that he had been at Phil’s the week before and Phil had mentioned he was holding on to a 1935 Ford Coupe body for me.

Immediate action ! The next day we were in the car and traveling to visit Phil. What we found was a coupe body that had a long sad history of being rolled and burnt out a few times. My wife Gail was less than impressed with the rusty piece of junk but, while she had wandered off to check out other more interesting rubbish tip items, I quickly did a deal with Phil and the coupe was ours. When Gail came back and found out we were now the proud owners of this rusty thing that vaguely resembled a car, she thought I had gone completely mad however she has always been the greatest supporter of the vision….
